"Leafy Heroes: A Talk in the Vegetable Basket"

Leefy Vegetables

Leafy vegetables are rarely a child's favourite. The moment you serve spinach, methi, or any green leafy delight, children greet it with an array of emoji-like expressions—some frown, some fake a tummy ache, and some even try to bargain with an extra roti just to avoid it!

But one day, all of that changed—for a moment at least.

I remember visiting my son’s school on the occasion of Market Day, an event beautifully curated by the Pre-primary section. Amid colourful stalls and homemade snacks, what truly stole the show was an adorable skit put up by the little ones, dedicated to leafy vegetables.

The curtain opened with peppy music and laughter. One by one, the veggies entered the stage—not just as food, but as full-blown performers, each with a unique style and personality.

Dressed in green shades, wearing cool glasses, the first little one stormed the stage with a hip-hop dance. (The Hiphop hero - Spinach)
With a confident voice, he said:

"Yo yo kids, I’m Palak the Power King! Full of iron, energy, and zing! Eat me up, and you’ll run like the wind!"

Graceful twirls, flowing movements—this veggie came in with a contemporary dance, gentle yet firm.  (The contemporary champion - Methi)

She said:

"I may taste a little bitter, but I’m your best friend inside. I clean your tummy, boost your brain, and help you grow wide and wise!"

In a soft voice and delicate movements, Shepu tiptoed on stage, like a shy little fairy.

With a cute smile, she whispered:

"I don’t shout, I don’t fight. I quietly keep your bones strong and tummy light. Please don’t ignore me—I’m gentle but wise."

With lights flashing and disco beats pumping, in came Ambat Chuka, dancing with swagger and drama.

He declared:

"I’m tangy, zesty, full of fun! I fight germs and help you run! One bite of me, and you’ll never feel dull!"

The entire skit ended with a beautiful chorus sung by the children:

💥"Leafy greens, don’t make a fuss,
We’re full of love and good for all of us!"💥
